For most consumers, they need to see your logo 8-10 times before they start to recognize it. Incorporating your logo into video improves that retention by nearly 75%.

Consumers will recognize your law firm faster when your law firm’s logo is embedded in video. The theory behind this recent finding is that when a person sees a still image, the brain first tries to see if it recognizes it, and then decides if it needs to store it. In most cases, your brain chooses to disregard pretty much everything you see. The mind is a wonderful curator of what’s important and what is not and uses that limited space in your skull wisely.

However, with video, your brain is instantly engaged by the movement (perhaps from our caveman days of constantly being on the lookout for enemies lurking in the bushes). When your logo is embedded in a video, your brain is forced to use that logo as an anchor point for understanding all of the action that surrounds it. You do the same thing in a “danger” situation – you see a tree standing still in the forest and you use it to judge the speed and movement of everything else happening behind it. Thus, the outcome is that your brain sees the logo and your brain decides it’s important to store it because it may come in handy at some point in the future (when there’s another disturbance in the forest).

The lesson for you is that if you’re doing social media marketing (the place where most consumers watch 6.5 hours of video a week!), your efforts could be greatly accelerated by incorporating video as a permanent part of your online marketing strategy. Consumers will come to recognize your brand faster, and in the long run, it will cost less money to get them to think of you when they have a legal issue.

SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO TIPS
Incorporate your logo into the lower right side of every video. Keep it there the entire time. Social media videos should have your most important movement or text block first. Don’t build up a piece of content to a climax. Climax and then wind down.

Always tell the viewer exactly what you want them to do (and be specific)! i.e. “Call us for a pain free phone consultation.”, “Email us for a free review of your auto policy.” “Talk to our lawyers about your landlord’s responsibilities to you!” – Whatever the content of the video, address it specifically and head on and then have a specific call to action.

Limit social feed videos to 30 seconds and include a link to longer videos or informative text pages in your post. If you can get a potential client off social media and into your own website, you will have a lot more opportunities to collect their information and convert them. So put the same strong calls to action in your post text and promise potential clients that if they’ll just click over to your website, all their free legal information dreams will come true!

Don’t let perfection get in the way of production. Even if it’s you holding your own phone, produce-produce-produce! Never forget that every single day, you posses the answer to a legal question that one of your potential clients has. If they don’t know that you know what they need to know, they won’t know to call yo — you!

Know your #hashtags. If you don’t already have a large social following understand that #hashtags are how people will find you for free. Hashtags are today’s search strings. They are what potential clients use to find relevant information within social media. Post as many meaningful hashtags as you can with every video post you create. If you’re not doing this, you’re wasting a lot more of your time and not growing your potential client pool as fast as you should.

If you’re going to trial, you need to show AND tell.

It’s a fact: Nationally, plaintiff’s attorneys only win 44% of the cases they take to trial. Attorneys who hire Law Father win nearly 85% of the time.

Attorneys who were not particularly quick to embrace trial technology are beginning to realize that great cases are being lost because of a failure to attract and keep attention NOT a failure of the facts.

Consider the following:

After one hour, people retain less than half of the information presented.

After one day, people forget more than 70 percent of what was taught in training.

After six days, people forget 75 percent of the information in their training.

In 2000, our attention span was 12 seconds. Now, it’s 8.25 seconds.

The attention span of a goldfish is 9 seconds.

Jurors allowed to keep their phones on them in the jury box may check their email inbox 30 times every hour (or every two minutes) and will pick up their phones more than 1,500 times in a week.

Those are some tough stats – but they shouldn’t be ignored. So, what can you do in trial to make sure the message you want to send stays in the minds of jurors? Try remembering the three distinct learning styles and TEACH TO ALL OF THEM.

Visual Learners: These jurors understand and learn best when information is presented to them visually. Seeing information helps these jurors visualize the case information. They respond to poster boards, bullet points, and graphics.

Auditory Learners: These jurors understand and learn best when information is presented to them in an auditory manner – such as listening to testimony and following along with a line of questioning. Hearing information helps these jurors internalize case information. Connect with them by creating verbal themes and repeating them back over and over. (“If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”)

Kinesthetic Learners: These jurors best understand information that is presented to them kinesthetically, using their hands or bodies (such as holding models or watching others physically manipulate and present evidence). Try walking around in the courtroom to create a virtual space, i.e. a crash scene, a hospital room – physically draw diagrams and pass things around.

Law Father can consult with you about your case and provide insight from hundreds of jury trials. Our technicians are in court more than the attorneys we work with. We know how to tell stories and make critical facts stay front and center in the minds of juries. Click here to book Law Father Trial Support today.

The pace of this innovation often feels exponential, probably because it literally is. Not only does the capability of computer chip technology regularly double, but so do other technologies not directly dependent upon transistor counts. Technology is an evolutionary process, and it speeds up exponentially.

Three of the most exciting innovations in this revolution are blockchain, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Blockchain has highlighted a crucial aspect of the way data will work in the coming years—you can expect a world where data will be increasingly distributed, and increasingly more transparent and secure.

The cloud is pretty much impossible to avoid these days in at least one way or another. The convenience and processing possibilities inherent in cloud computing means it will only become more and more common.

When it comes to artificial intelligence, most experts believe AI will improve the lives of the majority of people within the next decade, in new and exciting ways. Who knows whether or not it will all end with a giant matrix of human batteries used to fuel the mechanical monstrosities of the future.

Technology has, and will continue, to alter all aspects of our modern lives. And one of the most important areas this has happened in, is the legal industry. Technology has touched all aspects of the law, from the ways law firms market to potential clients, to the everyday procedural aspects of running a law firm, to the very ways attorneys present their cases to judges and juries. And creating this new tech are the driven and inspired companies of all shapes and sizes, that make up the legal tech industry.

Legal tech is a growing industry, and one that promises to keep growing. The increase in funding for legal tech companies, along with increased public awareness, and multiple recent mergers and acquisitions of legal tech companies, suggest we’re just at the start of the upswing. In that vein, here are 15 legal tech companies to watch in 2019:

HelpSelf Legal uses an artificial intelligence-assisted platform to improve workflow.

Dtour.life streamlines divorce case data, providing secure digital collaboration that makes the divorce process less stressful for those involved.

Considered by many to be the legal tech event of the year, the Techshow is a highly attended convention that brings together attorneys and legal professionals from around the country, as well as burgeoning and established legal technology companies, to network and learn about emerging trends in the legal technology industry.

For the third year in a row, the Techshow will host a competition between up and coming legal tech start-ups, where they’ll have 3 minutes to pitch their companies, and then be judged by event attendees. The pitch competition, organized by attorney, writer and legal technologist, Robert Ambrogi through his lawsitesblog.com website, started with a large number of companies being submitted to his site as possible contenders. From all of those entries, judges narrowed the field down to their top 25. From there, the final 15 to participate in the pitch competition we’re selected by popular vote through the website.

We’re proud to announce that the attorney timeline software created by Law Father, TrialLine, was selected as one of the winners and is heading to Chicago for the Techshow. As winners, TrialLine will not only be able to participate in the pitch competition, but will also have a table in the exhibit hall in the Techshow’s Start-Up Alley Pavilion.

For more information and tickets, check out Techshow.com. And if you end up making it to Chicago, stop by to introduce yourself and get a demo of what TrialLine can do.

TrialLine, the legal case timeline tool created by LawFather, was made specifically for attorneys and law firms. But because of it’s many features, it’s also a powerful tool for displaying any information that needs to be organized along a timeline.

Visuals are more important than ever to the way we communicate, and since TrialLine is highly customizable, you can tailor your timeline to whatever your visual needs may be. You can set a captivating, informative image or video as the background for your timeline, and you can assign specific images to each individual event.

TrialLine also allows you to attach specific documents to each event, which makes it easy to provide supporting documentation as needed. For maximum impact, you can also attach video files that can be played right there in the TrialLine, so there’s no time spent waiting as your browser navigates to a URL on YouTube or Vimeo.

As an example, took at look at this TrialLine we created based on an article by Slate.com’s editor Jeremy Stahl, in which he lays out all of the different times members of the Trump administration have denied any collusion with Russia:

Law Father provided a soft launch of TrialLine V1 in January ’17 – extending the product to current clients and associates. In March, TrialLine was opened to the public. Since then, TrialLine has grown 10x over earlier predictions. “That public launch was very exciting,” said Travis Luther, President of Law Father. “TrialLine is something we had been working on and talking about for two years. It was just tremendous to see attorneys paying for the software and to hear about the difference it was making in mediations and trials.” Based on feedback accumulated from the soft launch of V1, TrialLine announced the V2 update on September 1st.

TrialLine V2 has some impressive new features, including an expanded timeline view for minute-by-minute event stacking and a full screen presentation mode that makes TrialLine even better in trial. “The attorneys we talked to wanted to use TrialLine for openings and closings,” Luther points out. “So we redesigned the presentation slide with more layout flexibility and a sharper, more stylized look.”

Learn More About TrialLine: The Best Timeline Software for Lawyers

TrialLine is not without competitors, and Luther admits there remain challenges ahead. “We have to assure lawyers who currently use programs like LexisNexis’s TimeMap that learning a new timeline program will be worth the reward.” Luther is confident that TrialLine will pay financial rewards to attorneys who buy in. “Trial lawyers know that successful cases are won with successful storytelling. If you look at TrialLine against our competitors, you can clearly see that our software tells a much more compelling story to mediators and jurors. This is especially true when opposing counsel refuses to use any kind of storytelling technology.” Luther adds that, as far as he knows, TrialLine is the only cloud-based mediation, trial presentation and storytelling timeline tool available to law firms. “I don’t see any other legal timeline software on the market that has the ease of use that TrialLine has. You can work on TrialLine from anywhere in the world, on any device. TimeMap doesn’t even work on a Mac.”

Google wants to be sure that people who visit websites they display in their search engine have a good experience and are not frustrated by technical issues. That is why Google created a free tool to help developers uncover load speed problems in their website designs. The tool is called PageSpeed insights and is available here: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

When you enter a URL into PageSpeed Insights, Google’s bot hits it and records how long it takes specific elements to load. Google then catalogs which elements of the webpage are causing delays. At the conclusion of the PageSpeed test, Google returns a score for both the mobile and desktop site. They then make recommendations on areas that could be improved. Scores range from 0-100, with anything over 90 considered “Good” (the top rating).

Some of the PageSpeed recommendations are easy to correct, such as resizing images. Others are a little more difficult, such as CSS adjustments and JavaSript updates. These types of fixes will most likely require a skilled programmer who can repair your site without breaking other areas of the code or functions.

In addition to creating a good user experience, having a fast performing site can move your site higher in the search returns. Google refers to this as the “page speed ranking factor.” When the Google algorithm examines two very similar sites, it must determine on which site would a person have a better experience? If site A has similar content to site B, but has technical problems and takes a long time to load, Google is likely to reward site B and rank it higher than site A. Google’s motivation is simple: keep people using Google and don’t give them any reason to switch to Yahoo or Bing. If Google continuously sends their users to technically strenuous sites, they will eventually lose those users to search engines that can present better search returns. The more technically unsound your website is, the more likely it is to be buried deep in the search returns.

Further, while Google has been slowly incorporating PageSpeed load times as a ranking factor since 2010, it has only been in the last six months that the “page speed ranking factor” has been applied to ranking mobile sites.

If you are unaware, mobile phone searches now make up nearly 60% of all Internet searches. Google has already adjusted to this trend by ranking technically sound mobile websites above traditional websites when users conduct their Google searches on mobile phones. What you need to know is that if your potential client is looking for a lawyer on her iPhone and your website is not optimized for mobile viewing, she is less likely to find your website than she is a competitor’s mobile website that Google has rated as “Good”. However, if she searches from her desktop computer, and your website is optimized for desktop browsing, she’s likely to receive a different search return from Google, one showing sites that perform well on desktop computers, and perhaps more likely to find your site. But since we now know that mobile search exceeds desktop search, it is equally important that both your sites be as technically sound as possible.

If you have run your law firm’s website through the PageSpeed Insights analysis and are concerned about your scores, Law Father can help. We can examine Google’s technical assessment and create a plan to make the necessary repairs and adjustments. In most cases, this work can be completed in 3-4 days. Once completed, we will then send a re-crawel request to Google, asking them to re-evaluate your law firm’s website and update your website’s PageSpeed score. This work can help improve your page speed ranking factor and your position in Google’s organic search returns. To schedule a PageSpeed update, call 800.325.7715 or fill out the contact form on http://www.lawfather.net.

*As an interesting side note, I ran Google.com through Google’s own PageSpeed analysis and found that Google’s mobile site has a few issues of its own =)

Trial is coming up. Your case file contains hundreds of pages of documents and thousand of facts. It is an overwhelming amount of information to organize and present. A case timeline is the perfect vehicle to organize this information. But, where do you start? TrialLine knows that your case timeline does not start with the design. Your case timeline starts with the facts.

If your case timeline is going to help you present your case to a jury, then you better get used to writing your facts like you post to Twitter: with as few characters as possible.

Here are some bullet points to keep in mind as you create your case timeline:

Your facts are your headlines.

They need to be short and sweet.

The reader MUST be able to understand them without help from you.

Twitter allows for 140 characters.

Twitter believes character constraints inspire creativity.

Google allows for 60 characters.

Google believes 60 characters are readable and clean.

Constraints are great for trial.

Too much info makes it harder to decide.

This blog was written with constraints.

You read the whole thing.

Consider TrialLine.
